Student Travel Awards

Student Travel Awards

Annual Conference Travel

A sum of $1000 or more is shared each year amongst student members who present material (poster or oral paper) at our annual conference. Each year the total sum is shared between student presenters, on the basis of the distance travelled to the conference, with preference given to those presenting oral papers rather than posters. Payments have been in the range of $100-$400 in recent years, usually insufficient to cover expenses but may help students in securing additional assistance from other sources. Larger amounts are offered when our annual conference is held in Australia. Funds are usually disbursed at the Conference.

Students wishing to share in this fund must:

  • be current associate members of NZSPB
  • be first author on the paper or poster
  • provide a copy of their title and abstract (usually around May each year)
  • include a statement from their supervisor confirming the supervisor’s support and their student status. It is expected that the supervisor is also a member of the NZSPB.

International Conference Travel

At least two awards of $250 or more are offered each year for student members to present material at any international conference. Applications can be made throughout the year and will be assessed by the NZSPB council. Recent awards have been between $500 and $1000, with the amount varying with funds available and the number of applicants. This money is intended to provide leverage for students attempting to gain additional funds from other sources.

Students wishing to compete for these awards must:

  • be current associate members of NZSPB
  • be first author on the paper or poster
  • provide a brief proposal, stating the conference they wish to attend and giving the title and abstract of their intended paper
  • include a statement from their supervisor confirming the supervisor’s support and their student status. It is expected that the supervisor is also a member of the NZSPB.
